The Peer Mentor Program

The Peer Mentor Program is the umbrella program for several services provided by HOPE, INC.  The Peer Mentor Program's main focus is the Warm Line, however it also focuses on hospital visits and other forms of outreach.  It also provides an opportunity for people interested in gaining employment experience while assisting members of the mental health community of Southern Arizona.  These people are known as Peer Mentors.
Peer Mentors are people with first hand experience in recovery of mental illness (either in themselves or a family member) with a desire to help other members of their community learn to recover from their illness. Peer Mentors are guided through extensive and rigorous training that teaches them the necessary skills to help their peers in a flexible work environment.  Upon employment they receive continued education to maximize their skills, as well as developing their unique and individual talents.
The Peer Mentors are made up of people just starting to work, people starting over, people just looking to help others and just about any walk of life.  This can be an excellent starting point for those interested in working within the mental health field.

Becoming A Peer Mentor

The first step to becoming a Peer Mentor is getting an application. You can call the HOPE, Inc Offices at (520) 770-1197 and request that an application is mailed to you, or you can download the necessary paperwork at this site and mail them to:

Peer Mentor Program (ATTN: Program Coordinator)
236 South Tucson Blvd
Tucson, AZ 85716
Please note you will be expected to fill out a criminal history self-declaration form to certify that you have not committed a crime which would disqualify you from working with us which will need to be notarized (we can assist you with this if you have any questions).

What is the Warm Line?

One of the most popular services that HOPE offers is the Warm Line. Despite that popularity, there are still many people who are not sure what it is all about-which is too bad, because the Warm Line is a service that can be helpful to anyone at one time or another.
The Warm Line is specifically tailored towards people who are calling because they have something to say and are looking for someone to listen. That's exactly what the Warm Line provides. The Warm Line is staffed by caring Peer Mentors who are paid to listen to you.  Due to their first hand experience with mental illness, they can emphasize with your situation.
Just as the Peer Mentors come from all walks of life, so do the callers. People call because they're depressed, because they're lonely or they just want someone to talk to. Everyone needs someone to talk to sometimes. So if you're feeling a little lonely, or down then go ahead and give the Warm Line a call. The number is (520) 770 9909. The hours are 4:30 to 8:30 Monday through Friday and on Saturday and Sunday they're open from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.
